Distinguished Members of the Press Honoured at the Festival
The Press Awards Ceremony was held at the 27th International Istanbul Büyükçekmece Culture and Art Festival, which has been honoured with the "World's Best Culture and Art Festival" award by international evaluation organizations for 12 consecutive years.
At the award ceremony held at the Büyükçekmece Kültürpark Kemal Sunal Amphitheatre, Özden Erkuş received the Press Special Award of the Year, Nevşin Mengü received the Press Achievement Award of the Year, and Yalçın Doğan received the Press Honor Award of the Year.
Press Special, Achievement and Honor Awards Presented
At the 27th International Istanbul Büyükçekmece Culture and Art Festival, the meeting point of art, culture and labour, distinguished members of the press were honoured at a special ceremony. The awards, determined by the Festival Committee and the People's Jury, were presented by the Acting Mayor of Büyükçekmece, Hakan Çebi, H. Gürhan Ozanoğlu, Co-President of FIDAF and Vice Chairman of the Festival Committee, and Ümit Ersoy, Press Advisor of Büyükçekmece Municipality. The Press Special Award of the Year was presented to Defne Çekirge of NTV on behalf of Özden Erkuş, who was unable to attend the ceremony due to an overseas assignment; the Press Achievement Award of the Year was presented to Özge Yılmaz on behalf of Nevşin Mengü; and the Press Honor Award of the Year was presented to veteran journalist Yalçın Doğan.
Yalçın Doğan's Words of Praise for Büyükçekmece
Veteran journalist and author Yalçın Doğan, who received the Press Honor Award, praised the festival organization and the people of Büyükçekmece, saying:"This is Istanbul, yet an exceptional evening is taking place here. I feel as if I am in another land. It is such a magnificent organization, and you have chosen such a wonderful municipality. It is a magnificent municipality with extraordinary administrators, but the real authority and the truly magnificent ones are you. You chose such a municipality."
Hakan Çebi: "I Sincerely Thank All Our Members of the Press"
Speaking at the Press Awards Ceremony of the Year, the Acting Mayor of Büyükçekmece, Hakan Çebi, congratulated the award-winning journalists and said:"We are delighted to present our traditional press awards to their recipients once again this year as part of our festival. Following the evaluations carried out by the International Istanbul Büyükçekmece Culture and Art Festival Committee and the People's Jury, I congratulate Ms. Nevşin Mengü, who has been deemed worthy of the Press Achievement Award, Mr. Özden Erkuş, who has been deemed worthy of the Press Special Award, and Mr. Yalçın Doğan, who has been deemed worthy of the Press Honor Award. I wish them continued success in their professional careers. I sincerely thank our journalists, who add value to their profession through their efforts to inform our society with accuracy, impartiality and integrity, as well as all members of the press, and I extend my love and respect to them all."
