The Artistic Heritage of World Cultures Came to Life in Büyükçekmece
The 27th International Istanbul Büyükçekmece Culture and Art Festival opened its doors to art lovers with exhibitions featuring handcrafted works and creative workshops.
The exhibition and workshop openings, which attract great interest every year in the Büyükçekmece Kültürpark, Kervansaray and Museum sections, brought together the excitement of the festival with the colours of art. Visiting the stands one by one, the Acting Mayor of Büyükçekmece, Hakan Çebi, conveyed the greetings of the Mayor of Büyükçekmece, Dr. Hasan Akgün, to the citizens and artists and thanked them for their support of the festival.
A Colourful Artistic Journey from Photography to Handicrafts
The International Güler Ertan Photography Competition Exhibition, opened as part of the festival, brought together the award-winning works of photographers from different countries with art lovers. At the "Little Breaks, Great Horizons" Photography Workshop, children and young people had the opportunity to experience the basic techniques of photography through practical applications, while educational games supporting strategy, thinking and learning skills provided enjoyable moments for participants at the Art and Play Village – MindCraft International Intelligence and Skill Games Area. At the Children's Handicrafts Workshops, young participants experienced the excitement of creating their own works using different handicraft techniques, while at the "Hands That Create with a Labour of Love" International Handicrafts Exhibition, original works by artisans from different countries reflecting their traditional handicrafts brought together the handicraft heritage of different cultures under one roof.
Hakan Çebi: "Our Festival Is a Bridge of Friendship and Culture Beyond Art"
Speaking at the opening ceremonies of the exhibitions and workshops of the International Istanbul Büyükçekmece Culture and Art Festival, the Acting Mayor of Büyükçekmece, Hakan Çebi, made the following statement:
"As part of our 27th International Istanbul Büyükçekmece Culture and Art Festival, we are delighted to bring together with our fellow citizens the International Intelligence and Skill Games Area and Handicrafts Workshops, where our children meet art, games and science; the International Handicrafts Exhibition, which keeps our cultural heritage alive; the International Güler Ertan Photography Competition Exhibition, reflecting the universal language of art; and the Yörük Ali Efe Memorial House, which we established to preserve the cherished memory of Yörük Ali Efe, one of the unforgettable heroes of our War of Independence. This festival is the finest meeting point not only of art, but also of friendship, fraternity, cultural sharing and the common values that we will leave to future generations. It is a great source of pride for us that our children grow up with art, that our traditional values are preserved, and that artists from all over the world come together in Büyükçekmece. I would like to thank all our artists, instructors, colleagues and everyone who has contributed, and I invite all our citizens to visit these special events of our festival."
The opening ceremonies were attended by CHP 24th Term Member of Parliament Süleyman Çelebi, Hatice Akgün, wife of the Mayor of Büyükçekmece, Dr. Hasan Akgün, Kayhan Kavas, retired governor and grandson of Yörük Ali Efe, municipal council members, and many citizens.
