The Silent Witnesses of the Past Come Back to Life Through Chests

Prepared as part of the 27th International Istanbul Büyükçekmece Culture and Art Festival, the "Silent Witnesses of the Past: Chest Exhibition" has opened its doors to art lovers.

The exhibition, curated by Seher Danışoğlu, was inaugurated at the Dumlupınar Hall of the Büyükçekmece Municipality Service Building with the participation of Acting Mayor of Büyükçekmece Hakan Çebi and his wife Nalan Çebi, 24th Term CHP Member of Parliament Süleyman Çelebi, municipal council members, deputy mayors, mayoral advisors, department directors, and many invited guests. Following the opening ceremony, certificates of appreciation were presented to those who contributed to the preparation of the exhibition.

Every Chest Tells a Story

Having safeguarded countless stories, joys, longings, and memories over the years, these traditional chests have been brought back to life through the "Silent Witnesses of the Past: Chest Exhibition."

Originating from different regions of Anatolia and Rumelia, the chests on display feature intricate motifs, vibrant colours, and fine craftsmanship that reflect the lifestyles, artistic traditions, and cultural heritage of the communities to which they belonged. Each chest tells its own unique story, inviting visitors on a meaningful journey into the past while standing as a remarkable symbol of cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation.

The "Silent Witnesses of the Past: Chest Exhibition" will remain open to visitors at the Dumlupınar Hall of the Büyükçekmece Municipality Service Building until 1 August.
